The section is responsible for the removal of refuse from all bossiness and domestic premises in Bulawayo. Removal of other refuse, such as garden waste and industrial waste, has been commercialised. Some illegal dumping takes place. The department has contracted out street cleaning.

All waste is disposed of at the sanitary landfill site in Richmond. The section ensures that nuisances with regard to pollution of the environment through smell, fire, and dust, insect and rodent infestation are kept to a minimum. The landfill site attracts scavengers and squatters and this is also unfortunately the case in Bulawayo.
