This section deals with major public health pest nuisances.
They are:
Mosquitoes
Bulawayo is surrounded by areas where malaria transmission is seasonal. Known water bodies are sprayed. In private properties advice is given on mosquito control. In open space appropriate measures, such as spraying or eradication of breeding sites, are taken.
Rodents
Plague is endemic in some parts of Matabeleland north. The section maintains a rodent control belt around the city which consists of poison bait points placed 100 metres apart.
Domestic pests
Such as cockroaches, bedbugs and flies, are controlled in municipal buildings for a fee.
