His Worship, the Mayor of Bulawayo Councilor Martin. K. Moyo has commended the job well done by the City of Bulawayo Councillors and staff in purchasing service delivery vehicles at a total price of $2 089 054 in an effort to ensure efficient and effective service delivery to the residents of the City.

The City of Bulawayoon Wednesday, 17 February 2016 commissioned seven Refuse Compactors from XGMA valued at $941 850, six Tipper Trucks from Khanyisile valued at $580 704 and four Motorised Water Bowsers from Duly’s at $566 500 at a ceremony held at the City Hall Car park.

The Mayor said that the commissioning of these vehicles comes when the city is battling with various transport challenges in delivering services.

“The seven compactors which we are also commissioning today come at a time when we are battling with illegal dumping of waste and are constantly faced with disruptions to our refuse collection schedule due to frequent breakdown of old compactors. Our fleet has become old and some of the vehicles have outlived their lifespan,” the Mayor said.

Councillor Moyo called on residents and stakeholders to work with Council on ensuring efficient services.

“We expect residents to play their part of bringing out their waste on the scheduled refuse collection days early in the morning,” he said.

The Director of Health Services, Dr Zanele Hwalima concurred with the Mayor, saying that residents should desist from bad behaviour of illegal dumping. She added that the residents and Council have to work together to maintain the city and follow the city’s motto that says,“My City My Pride Keep Bulawayo Super clean”.

He highlighted that the city commissioned a total of 52 units of equipment for water and sanitation in 2012, five refuse removals, in 2015, 12 units and 12 pieces of equipment were commissioned for road maintenance.
