World Oral Health Day 2021

WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY 2021 - 20 TO 25 APRIL 2021

THEME: Be Proud of Your Mouth.

Introduction

World Oral Health Day is celebrated around the globe on the 20th of March every year. World Oral Health Day was first declared in 2007 and originally celebrated on September. 12, the birthday of FDI founder Dr. Charles Gordon. However, the campaign was not fully activated until 2013, when the date was changed to March 20 to avoid conflict with the FDI World Dental Congress, which traditionally takes place in the late summer. The aim of the commemoration is to empower people with knowledge, tools and confidence to secure a good oral health. Each year, the world is asked to come together to reduce oral diseases which affect individuals, healthcare providers and economies everywhere.

The official theme of the 2021 campaign is,“Be Proud of Your Mouth”. The City of Bulawayo is commemorating World Oral Health Day for a week from the 20th to the 25th of April 2021. The observance spreads messages about good oral hygiene practices for adults and children and illustrates the importance of oral health in maintaining general health and well-being.
