PRESS RELEASE: TRAFFIC SIGNS REPLACEMENT TO ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY MANUAL VOLUME IV PROGRAM

The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public that Council is installing road signs citywide in line with the Statutory Instrument 41 of 2016 (SI 2016 41) in which the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development has, in terms of Section 39 as read with section 81 of the Road Traffic Act [Chapter 13:11], made regulations to conform to the SADC Road Traffic Safety Manual Standards.

The motoring public is therefore advised to exercise caution when driving in these areas during the installation of these road signs which commenced on the 18th September 2017, starting with the Central Business District.

The City of Bulawayo is currently erecting the signs and thereafter road line markings will be done.

Residents are advised that the new signs will be complemented with appropriate road line markings before they are commissioned.

Below are some of the signs that are ready for installation by the City of Bulawayo city wide in line with the Statutory Instrument 41of 2016 (SI 2016 41.

While the work is in progress, the public is requested to acquaint themselves with the new signs and their implication to ensure safety of all road users.

One of the City’s primary goals is to provide adequate housing, roads, water, wastewater infrastructure and other basic services to its residents.

The installation of the road signs will see the replacement of old street signs.

Modern technologically advanced luminous signs have been developed and these are visible to road users during the day and at night as they show a quality of retro-reflectivity and are more durable.

The City of Bulawayo would also like to urge members of the public to desist from vandalizing and breaking down the signs.

Vandalism of municipal infrastructure is a chargeable offence.
