MTSHANE Was derived from the name of chief Mtshane Khumalo of Inyathi - Bubi District. The School was established on 27 July 1987.

Exact Location

The school is situated South West of the Central Business District of the city of Bulawayo. It is in the suburb of Nkulumane 2 which is about 12 km from the city. The school is near Bullet Shopping Centre which is close to robots controlled intersection of Siyepambili Drive and Rangemore road, not far from the Bulawayo Grain Marketing Board Depot on stand number 7617 Nkulumane 2.

The school has an outstanding record of achieving 80% and above academically from 1988 2008.

Clustering Academic Sporting

Nkulumane cluster in which Mtshane falls has 8 Primary Schools, 7 of these are B.C.C schools and 1 Government school.

Academic The academic performance of Mtshane has been very consistent since its inception. On average Mtshane ranks among the top 4 in this cluster.

The cluster offers a number of sporting activities in which the school performs reasonably well.

Role of The Council

The Council being the Responsible Authority formulates some policy guidelines and provides services e.g. payment of water, electricity bills and supply of stationery & textbooks etc.

Parents Teachers Association

It plays a pivotal role of providing supplementary assistance in the provision of textbooks, repairing of furniture, duplicating machine & purchasing of computers.

Challenges Faced Over the Years

  • Insufficient classrooms which results in hot sitting.
  • Shortage of textbooks.
  • The playground needs improvement and installation of modern facilities.
  • Toilets are insufficient as they were designed for a non-hot sitting school.
  • Kindergarten & Early Childhood Development toilets need small toilet seats.
  • As one of the oldest schools the furniture is broken down.
  • Some classroom floors have pot holes and cracks.
  • Classroom & cupboard doors need replacement.

  • Furniture needs repairs and some replacement.
  • School high performance level to be maintained or improved.
